How ió fibrewater is different
ió fibrewater, makes fibre and gut health simple and refreshing. Each 500 ml bottle of ió fibrewater provides 20%* of your recommended daily fibre intake and 100%* of your daily prebiotic fibre intake with minimal calories and carbohydrates, making us suitable for people on a variety of diets.
ió fibrewater, is the UK's first and only prebiotic fibre infused water, and our effectiveness is supported by a university study.
Backed by science
There are thousands of scientific papers on the benefits of fibre. Through long-term studies monitoring the impact of fibre intake over decades it has been shown that increased fibre intake is positively correlated with a lower risk of weight gain, obesity, and chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, bowel cancer and even strokes. Many of these fantastic results are attributable to prebiotic fibre specifically, which is the kind of fibre that feeds friendly gut bacteria! This type of fibre is super impressive when it comes to appetite control, immune function, diabetes prevention and the prevention of bowel & colon cancers. For prebiotic fibre alone, there are over 4,000 scientific papers supporting its health benefits.
The prebiotic plant fibre that we use in ió fibrewater, called chicory root fibre (inulin), is extensively researched. Indeed, the brand of chicory root fibre in our bottles has two health claims supporting it, both approved by food authorities in the UK and EU. One health claim for maintaining a healthy digestive system and another for lowering and slowing blood glucose rise, which means a more stable blood sugar.
Our waters have also been tested by Glasgow Caledonian University to verify that ió fibrewater feeds friendly bacteria and is itself prebiotic. In this study, it was shown that ió fibrewater is an effective prebiotic, and we caused the growth of friendly bacteria well in excess of regular flavoured water. With friendly bacteria strains, S. Boulardii 4 million percent higher and B. Coagulans 25 thousand percent higher when fed ió fibrewater vs regular flavoured water. Both of these good bacteria species are known to have a positive impact on immune and digestive health.
You can be assured that with ió fibrewater, each bottle you drink is backed by science and well-evidenced results. To see the results from 28 people drinking ió fibrewater daily for 12 days, please see our FAQ page.
Why fibre?
We’ve created the UK’s first prebiotic fibre infused water, packed with 100% of your daily prebiotics intake and 20% of daily fibre to support your digestive health, immune system and metabolism.
As touched on, fibre does way more than just keep you regular. Consuming fibre can make it easier to lose weight, lower cholesterol, keep blood sugar stable, and even help you live longer.
The NHS recognises the benefits of fibre, too, stating that:
“There is strong evidence that eating plenty of fibre is associated with a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and bowel cancer. Choosing foods with fibre also makes us feel fuller, while a diet rich in fibre can help digestion and prevent constipation.”

Fibre is a type of carbohydrate that we cannot digest. With other types of carbohydrates, such as sugars and starches, our digestive system breaks them down into absorbable simple sugars, which our bodies use as energy. Fibre, on the other hand, passes through the stomach, and small intestine, into the colon (gut) undigested, where it adds bulk to stool and, in some cases, becomes food for the friendly bacteria colonising the gut.
The health benefits from fibre are numerous, but not enough people meet their daily fibre needs – and it is estimated that 90% of adult’s in the UK do not consume enough fibre.
Benefits of a high fibre diet
Improved weight management
As fibre passes undigested through your digestive tract, it keeps you feeling fuller for longer. Fibre slows down the process of food emptying from the stomach and expands in the digestive tract taking up more volume, which makes us feel less hungry. Plus, we must not forget that as our bodies try to digest fibre, they also burn calories. All the above makes fibre great for weight management without adding much in the way of calories to your diet.
Lowering fat absorption
As fibre passes undigested through your digestive tract, it attaches to fat molecules and inhibits their digestion and absorption by transporting these molecules out of the body.
Stabilising blood sugar and energy levels
Just as it inhibits fats from being absorbed, fibre slows down the digestion rate and absorption of carbohydrates like sugar. This means meals incorporating fibre are less likely to cause drastic spikes in blood sugar, stabilising energy levels.
Lowering cholesterol and heart disease risk
Fibre prevents some dietary cholesterol from being broken down and absorbed. Over time, fibre can help lower cholesterol levels or the amount of free cholesterol in the blood. By lowering cholesterol levels, stabilising blood sugar, and decreasing fat absorption, regularly eating fibre can help reduce the risk of heart disease.
Brighter skin
The excretion of fungus and yeast through skin pores can cause acne. Adding fibre to your diet ensures their elimination through the digestive tract instead of through your pores, producing brighter and clearer skin.
hydration + fibre
Drinking water and consuming fibre should go hand in hand. Men and women who consume the recommended 30g of fibre daily should drink at least 2 litres of water throughout the day. Water and fibre together are perfect partners as they can both act to suppress appetite and remove toxins from the body naturally.
Water is a natural appetite suppressant like fibre and together they can make us feel fuller for longer. Water takes up space in the stomach, and when the stomach senses that it is full, it sends signals to the brain to stop eating, leading to a feeling of fullness and reducing hunger. This is often why you hear diet experts recommending drinking 2 glasses of water first thing in the morning to reduce hunger. Additionally, a person may also think that they are hungry when they are actually thirsty, and sometimes we can eat unnecessarily when all we really need is some water/fluids. By combining both water and fibre we cover all angles, and we’re seeing great results as people use us to support fasting and reduced-calorie dieting.
Fibre also acts like a broom for the insides – cleaning up toxins in our digestive tracts. As water often performs the same task, remaining hydrated will mean your body performs this function more optimally, meaning that fibre and water together are better likely to prevent bloating and constipation.
ió fibrewater offers the perfect solution for increasing your fibre and water intake. With 6g of fibre in each bottle, ió fibrewater provides you with 20% of your daily fibre intake and 500 ml of water, helping to control your appetite and improve your digestive health. The power of prebiotics
Prebiotics (aka prebiotic fibre) are the champions of the fibre world! They take the benefits of fibre to the next level as these special fibres do what's listed above, but they also feed your good gut bacteria supercharging health and wellbeing. Prebiotics exist in fruits and vegetables, but they are in relatively low quantities, so getting the recommended amount daily can be a challenge through food alone.
Proven health benefits
ió fibrewater provides 100% of the recommended daily prebiotics intake in one bottle.
Since 2000, there have been over 4,000 research papers written on prebiotics and over 300 clinical studies proving their health benefits.
ENHANCED APPETITE CONTROL
Intake of prebiotics such as chicory root fibre stimulates the production of appetite-suppressing hormones in the gut, like peptide YY - helping us to feel less hungry.
BETTER FUNCTIONING OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
70-80% of our immune cells are in the gut, so prebiotics can play an important role in influencing the immune system. By keeping friendly gut bacteria populations healthy, prebiotics ensure that the gut environment is inhospitable toward pathogenic (aka “bad”) bacteria and other unfriendly microbes.
IMPROVED MOOD & SLEEP
90% of your mood-calming serotonin is found within your gut. Prebiotics can lower stress levels and help sleep by feeding beneficial gut bacteria. Prebiotics have also been shown to improve both rapid eye movement (REM) and non-rapid eye movement (NREM) sleep.
REDUCED INFLAMMATION
Intake of prebiotics is linked to an increase in the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines while reducing the expression of proinflammatory cytokines, reorienting the immune system towards reducing inflammation and promoting healing.
